Thank you to all of you who submitted your great ideas for our Safe Driver Week Contest! We had a tough job choosing the winners, but here are the top 3 winners along with some of the other top ideas.
Safe Driver Week Contest Winners!
- $250 Amazon gift card: Robert Patterson, Ice Express, TX
Our drivers are assigned a vehicle, and we have vehicle tracking, cameras and performance statistics which we compile and monitor for bad habits, trends and incidents. During safety week, I will put drivers in a different vehicle and track their driving performance, then compare to the ordinary driver of that vehicle. The results will then be shared with all the drivers in our weekly driver meeting.
- $150 Amazon gift card: Rae Young, Dean Young Forestry, Inc., ME
Each driver does a walk-around inspection before leaving for the day. Hands-free devices only. If the driver feels there is something wrong with the truck, they red flag themselves and call the mechanic. At the end of drivers’ week each driver receives a gift card to go out and eat. One exceptional driver will receive $100.00.
- $50 Amazon gift card: Denver Gordon, APL Logistics, GA
Focus on Speeding: ‘Arrive Alive.’ We are going to update our FleetLocate GPS Speed Threshold Alert by lowering the limit for exceeding speed from 75 to 71; so we will get alerts of anything over 71 MPH for the next month to better monitor fast drivers.
Honorable Mention: Lidia Robinson, Mashburn Equipment, GA
We do quarterly drivers’ meetings. We do presentations on the meeting statistics of our drivers’ performance. Speeding, hard braking, also we do all ELD violations and we place them in a graphic image. We communicate with each and all together and I do see a big improvement in our drivers’ safety performances and action.
Other Top Submissions
Jennifer Davis, Meteor Express, AL
Our company keeps our drivers safe by promoting safety year around. We speak to our drivers often about fatigued driving, speeding, hours of service diligence and many other safety features. We also require our tractors to come through our shop at least once a month for routine maintenance. We provide extensive video training on safe driving, defensive driving, speed and space management and many other training videos for our drivers. We want to keep our drivers and everyone around them safe. We want everyone to arrive home safely to their families each time they must travel.
Joe Knoedler, A. T. Chadwick Company, Inc, PA
We supply masks and sanitizer on each truck, and insist drivers wear masks during deliveries and wipe down before and after each delivery.
Bibiana Heath, Howl Transportation, TX
We have over 90 drivers and to keep our drivers safe we have an Open Door Policy so drivers can come in and discuss their issues or ideas they might have. A happy driver is a good driver; it shows potential in the driver and the company as a whole.
Thanks again to all of you who participated in our Safe Driver Week Contest 2020!
