What is the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse?
The FMCSA’s new Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is an electronic database containing drug and alcohol violations. Employers will use it beginning Jan. 6, 2020, to report violations and will be required to check it to see that no current or prospective driver is prohibited from operating a CMV due to an unresolved drug and alcohol violation.
Registration for the clearinghouse, which is required for carriers, is open as of Oct. 1. Both database and manual checks will be required for carriers until January 6, 2023. Carriers can either pay a flat per-query rate of $1.25 for both limited and full queries, or one annual payment $24,500 for an unlimited number of queries, the agency announced on August 20. Various query plans are available. Read more below for an overview.
